Nik Haffner is the new member of the board of directors of the HZT - together with Eva-Maria Hoerster and Prof. Ingo Reulecke. He thereby assumes position of Boris Charmatz, which has been vacant since September 2008. Nik Haffner studied dance at the Frankfurt University for Music and Performing Arts and at the Australian Ballet School in Melbourne. In 1994 he began working as a dancer with William Forsythe and the Ballett Frankfurt. Since his participation in the development of the CD-ROM "Improvisation Technologies", he has worked with the ZKM, Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe on a regular basis. As an independent dancer and choreographer he has created work for both theatre, film and exhibitions. He was a regular guest professor at the HZT since November 2008.
Interdisciplinary study group on the new Forsythe interactive web project “Synchronous Objects for One Flat Thing, reproduced”
Over the next five weeks, a small study group made up of HZT students and scolars from various degree programmes will be meeting up for a laboratory on the new William Forsythe interactive web project "Synchronous Objects". Focussing on Forsythe’s complex ensemble dance "One Flat Thing, reproduced", Synchronous Objects offers an original collection of screen-based visualisations (video, digital artwork, animation and interactive graphics), which reveal interlocking systems of organisation in the choreography. The project aims to appeal to a wide audience from diverse fields of interest including, but not limited to, dance. The HZT group is developing its own applications and questions and is in touch with two student research groups in the USA: Alva Noë’s philosophy students at Berkeley and Steven Turk’s architecture students at Ohio State University.
Nik Haffner, who tried out a variety of applications at the beginning of the year with students at Ohio State University, and who was involved in the development of Forsythe’s Improvisation Technology, is leading the project.
