Die Bewerbungsfrist für den Masterstudiengang SODA - Solo/Dance /Authorship läuft noch bis 15. November 2012 für den Studienbeginn zum Sommersemester im April 2013. Der englischsprachige zweijährige Vollzeitstudiengang bietet ein praxisorientiertes Studienprogramm auf Postgraduiertenniveau und wendet sich an Tanzschaffende sowie KünstlerInnen, die bereits über eine fundierte Praxis im Bereich körperbasierter Kunst wie z.B. Tanz, Choreographie, Performance verfügen und die ihre künstlerische Praxis kritisch reflektieren, erweitern und entwickeln wollen und die Auseinandersetzung mit den Kontexten und Herausforderungen zeitgenössischer Kunst suchen.

Die Bewerbungsfrist für den BA Tanz, Kontext, Choreographie für einen Studienbeginn zum Wintersemester 2013/14 wurde geändert. Die neuen Daten sind:

Im Wintersemester 2012/13 sind wieder internationale KünstlerInnen zu Gast am Hochschulübergreifenden Zentrum Tanz Berlin, darunter Wanda Golonka, Jeanine Durning, Rosalind Crisp, João Fiadeiro, Philipp Gehmacher und Xavier Le Roy.

In diesem Semester finden die bisherigen BA Tuesday-Lectures unter dem Titel „Views on Dance" am Mittwoch statt und wechseln sich mit den MA SODA Lectures ab. Unter dem Thema „Views on Dance" stellen jeweils zwei KünstlerInnen und/oder TheoretikerInnen ihre aktuellen Fragestellungen und Sichtweisen in Bezug auf Tanz und Choreographie vor und kommen miteinander ins Gespräch. „Views on Dance": Michikazu Matsune und Stefanie Wenner.

Michikazu Matsune, in Kobe, Japan geboren und seit mehr als zehn Jahren in Wien lebend, entwickelt Projekte in verschiedenen Formaten und Kontexten und interessiert sich für Performance in der Kunst, im Alltag und in gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhängen. Stefanie Wenner war bis August 2012 Dramaturgin und Kuratorin für Theater am HAU und ist jetzt im Team des Theaterfestivals Impulse.

„Views on Dance": Jeanine Durning: „inging"

Der Körper als notwendige Brücke zwischen Denken und Sprache ist Ausgangspunkt von Jeanine Durnings Arbeit „inging“. „inging“ bezieht sich auf die im Englischen verwendete Endung „-ing", der Verlaufsform der Gegenwart, die eine kontinuierliche Handlung, wie Singen, Springen etc. und eine fortlaufende Entwicklung anzeigt. In „inging“ erfindet Durning non-stop, sie füllt Leerstellen mit Geplapper, Fantasien, Erinnerungen und Tatsachen. Diese Soloperformance fordert sowohl die Performerin als auch die ZuhörerInnen heraus, über das Mysterium von Kommunikation, Kontext und Bedeutung nachzudenken.

Jeanine Durning lebt in New York City, sie arbeitet seit 2005 mit Deborah Hay. Ihre aktuellen Forschungsschwerpunkte sind die Anordnungen und Treffpunkte, die an der Schnittstelle von Körper und Sprache entstehen. Dieses Interesse hat sie zu dem Praxis- und Performanceprojekt „inging" inspiriert, das im Juni in Amsterdam Premiere feierte. Ihre choreographischen Projekte wurden u.a. gefördert von der „New York Foundation for the Arts“ und „The Alpert Award for the Arts (CA)“. Im letzten Jahr war sie Gastdozentin an der NYU/Tisch Dance; SNDO, Amsterdam und SODA, Berlin. Sie hat ihren BFA an der NYU/Tisch absolviert, sowie ihren MA in Choreographie an der Amsterdam School of the Arts.

Esa Kirkkopelto: The Composed Body
Vortrag in englischer Sprache

Esa Kirkkopelto, Leiter der Company Nälkäteatteri („Hunger Theater") und Autor des einflussreichen Buchs „Le théâtre de l'expérience" (Paris, 2008) verbindet die Erfahrung eines Theaterregisseurs mit denen eines Philosophen. In seiner Lecture wird er die Frage nach der Beziehung zwischen der Präsenz des Körpers auf der Bühne und Kompositionsmustern in zeitgenössischer Performance stellen. Esa Kirkkopelto ist stellvertretender Direktor der Theater Akademie in Helsinki.

Helmut Ploebst: The Activist Turn - Performance and afformance in consequence of Voina, Femen, and Pussy Riot

The disintegration of arts and humanities in post democratic societies has proceeded to an extent that requires immediate (re)action. One possible strategy is to examine art as activism juxtaposed to the strategy of activism understood as art. And composition as agency against the attempts of cleansing the art world from the potential of opposition in the arts and humanities.

In this lecture I would like to propose discoursive explorations within the fields of artistic communication which allow to “profit” from the various crises in our present by dismissing defensive hesitation or (self) censorship in the production and distribution of art and theory. How the “unnecessary” can strike back. And how art can deal with the fact that the “performative turn” of the 1990s is shifting into an “activist turn” in the 2010s targeting afformance understood as efficacy.

Burghard Duhm: Bauhaus tanzen
(Vortrag in deutscher Sprache)

Burghard Duhm wird eine Einführung in die Geschichte der Bauhaus-Bühne 1923 bis 1929 geben. Dabei geht es um die Frage, in welchem konzeptionellen Gefüge die Bauhaus-Bühne innerhalb der ehemaligen Hochschule für Gestaltung stand und welche Bedeutung dabei dem Tanz zugesprochen wurde. Es werden u.a. Tanzprojekte von Wassily Kandinsky und Kurt Schmidt vorgestellt.

Burghard Duhm ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter der Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau.

Vom 28. Oktober bis zum 10. November findet zum zweiten Mal das Erasmus Intensiv Programm: „Practicing Composition: Making Practice“ statt; Gastgeber ist TeaK / Theater Akademie Helsinki.

Das diesjährige IP trägt den Untertitel „Composition: Aesthetics and Social Experience“. 36 Studierende und Lehrende der europäischen Masterstudiengänge Choreographie sowie Life Art and Peformance Studies und Regie an der TeaK / Helsinki, Choreographie am ArtEZ / Arnhem und am University College Falmouth / UK, Dance Theatre am TrinityLaban / London, Dramaturgie an der Academy of Dramatic Arts / Zagreb und Solo/Dance/Authorship am HZT Berlin untersuchen in Workshops, Diskussionen und Präsentationen diesen spezifischen Aspekt von kompositorischer, dramaturgischer und choreographischer Arbeit und nehmen die Rolle des Künstlers in der Gesellschaft in den Blick.

Im aktuellen Jahrbuch der Zeitschrift „tanz" wurde Martin Hansen (BA) für seine Performance in der Produktion „Baader. Choreographie einer Radikalisierung" von Christoph Winkler von europäischen KritikerInnen zum „Tänzer des Jahres" gewählt.

Einstiegsförderung des Berliner Senats erhielten die Absolventinnen Magda Korsinski (Nachtrag 2012) und Elisabete Finger (2013). Projektförderung für 2013 des Berliner Senats erhielten die AbsolventInnen An Kaler, Shang-Chi Sun und Milla Koistinen.

Ana Laura Lozza erhielt ein Stipendium der Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes. Die HZT-Absolventin An Kaler erhielt mit ihrem Projekt „Orientations" ein Stipendium der Contemporary Arts Alliance in Höhe von 900,- monatlich für ein halbes Jahr.

John Cage war Komponist, Performer, Schriftsteller, Musiker und Philosoph in einem. Nachträglich zu seinem 100. The application deadline for the MA SODA – Solo/Dance/Authorship is 15. November 2012 for the summer semester beginning in April 2013. The MA in Solo/Dance/Authorship (MA SODA) is a two year, full-time Master of Arts degree. It provides a practice-led postgraduate education for practitioners 
who have already established a motivated practice in the field of body-based arts such as dance, performance and choreography, and who also wish to extend, develop and understand the forms, contexts and intellectual range of their work as well as engage with the contexts, challenges and environments of contemporary arts practice.

The application deadline for the BA Dance, Context, Choreography programme for the winter semester 2013/14 has changed. The new schedule is as follows:

What was previously known as the BA Tuesday lectures will take place this semester on Wednesdays and is titled “Views on Dance”. They will alternate with the MA SODA lectures. With the heading “Views on Dance”, two artists and/or theoreticians will present their current questions and perspectives in respect to dance and choreography and then discuss them together. Michikazu Matsune, born in Kobe, Japan has been living in Vienna for over ten years and develops projects in various formats and contexts, and is interested in performance in art, daily life and social contexts. Stefanie Wenner was, up to August 2012, dramaturge and curator for theatre at the HAU and is now part of the Impulse Theatre Festival team.

"Views on Dance": Jeanine Durning: "inging"

Jeanine Durning’s work takes the body as a necessary bridge between thought and language as its starting point. "inging" refers to the present progressive suffix "-ing" in English which indicates continuing action such as singing, jumping, etc. and the on-going development process. In "inging", Durning extemporizes non-stop, filling voids with idle prattle, fantasies, memories and facts. This solo performance prompts both performer and listener to contemplate the mystery of communication, context and meaning.

Jeanine Durning, based in New York City, has worked with Deborah Hay since 2005. Her current research deals with the alignments and collisions that occur at the intersection of body and language, where the movement of thought persists. This interest has led her to a solo practice and performance project called "inging", which she premiered last June in Amsterdam. Her choreographic projects have been supported by various foundations, including the New York Foundation for the Arts and The Alpert Award for the Arts (CA). This past year, Jeanine has been guest faculty at NYU/Tisch Dance; SNDO, Amsterdam; and SODA, Berlin. She has a BFA from NYU/Tisch and an MA in Choreography from the Amsterdam School of the Arts.

Esa Kirkkopelto: The Composed Body

The theater director Esa Kirkkopelto, leader of the company Nälkäteatteri ("Hunger theatre") and author of the influential book "Le théâtre de l'expérience" (Paris, 2008) connects the experience of the theater practitionner with the one of the philosopher. In his lecture at HZT he will raise the question on the relation between the live presence of body and compositional patterns in contemporary (theater) performance. Esa Kirkkopelto is the Vice-Rector of the Theatre Academy in Helsinki.

Burghard Duhm: Bauhaus tanzen
(lecture in German)

Burghard Duhm will give an introduction to the history of the Bauhaus stage from 1923 to 1929. The lecture will address the question: in which conceptual structure the Bauhaus stage was situated within the former School of Design and what relevance was given to dance. Dance projects by Wassily Kandinsky and Kurt Schmidt will be introduced, among others.

Burghard Duhm is a research associate at the Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau.

The Erasmus Intensive Programme is taking place for the second time from 28. October to 10. November: "Practicing Composition: Making Practice"; TeaK / Theater Akademie Helsinki is the host.

This year’s IP is subtitled "Composition: Aesthetics and Social Experience". 36 Students and teachers of the European MA degree programmes for choreography, live art, performance studies and theatre directing at the TeaK / Helsinki, choreography at the ArtEZ / Arnhem University College Falmouth / UK, dance theatre at TrinityLaban / London, dramaturgy at Academy of Dramatic Arts / Zagreb and Solo/Dance/Authorship at the HZT Berlin investigate this specific aspect of compositional, dramaturgic and choreographic work and look closely at the role of artists in society in workshops, discussions and presentations.

In the current yearbook of “tanz” magazine, Martin Hansen (BA) was selected by European critics as the "Dancer of the Year" for his performance in "Baader. Choreographie einer Radikalisierung" by Christoph Winkler.

The graduates Magda Korsinski (followup 2012) and Elisabete Finger (2013) received an entry-level grants from the Berlin Senate. Project support from the Berlin Senate for 2013 was awarded to the graduates An Kaler, Shang-Chi Sun und Milla Koistinen.

Ana Laura Lozza received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation. The HZT graduate An Kaler was rewarded a grant from the Contemporary Arts Alliance for her project "Orientations". She will receive 900 Euro per month for half a year.

John Cage Bauhaus-Happening

This Bauhaus-happening is dedicated to the American composer and avant-garde artist John Cage, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2012.
