Die amerikanische Tänzerin, Lehrerin und Therapeutin Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Begründerin der SCHOOL FOR BODY-MIND CENTERING® und eine der einflussreichsten Bewegungsforscherinnen unserer Zeit, gab im Juli 2011 Workshops in den Uferstudios: am 1. Juli einen HZT-internen Workshop für Studierende, Lehrende und Gäste und am 2./3. Juli einen zweitägigen offenen Workshop in Kooperation mit der Tanzfabrik Berlin unter dem Titel „Dynamics of Perception“. Außerdem fand ein Gespräch zwischen ihr und dem Philosophen und Kognitionswissenschaftler Alva Noë statt, das von Ka Rustler moderiert wurde.

Max ist neugierig. Max will mehr wissen. Max möchte das Land um das Uferdorf herum entdecken. Er fragt die Menschen, die in diesem Gebiet leben. Ein Gebiet, das Max jeden Tag durchqueren muss, um ins Uferdorf zu kommen. Max konfrontiert sich mit Meinungen um das Uferdorf herum.

Ein Abend mit Max und der Urbevölkerung, an dem Max sich mit Hilfe einer Video-Präsentation sowie einer geführten Tour mit Euch zum Thema Choreographie und das Lokale austauschen möchte.

Performative Arbeit und die öffentliche Bühne der Virtuosität

Produktion wird derzeit durch Kommunikation und Serviceleistungen nicht nur sozial sondern auch ästhetisch. Arbeit und Ästhetik verstricken sich ineinander. Da die meisten Erfahrungen jeder einzelnen Person Teil des Produktionsprozesses werden können, geschieht Selbstbestimmung als Performance in der Öffentlichkeit. Arbeit wird eine virtuose Darstellung. Aber, wenn Arbeit öffentliche Virtuosität wird, was wird dann aus dem politischen Handeln, das einmal zentraler Aspekt von Öffentlichkeit und Virtuosität war – vor allem im Werk von Hannah Arendt?

Isabell Lorey, PD Dr. phil., Politologin, lehrt gegenwärtig als Gastprofessorin für Politische Theorie am Zentrum Gender Studies an der Universität Basel. Zuvor hatte sie Gastprofessuren an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (2010 und 2011) und an der Universität Wien (2009 und 2010). 2001–2007 Assistenzprofessur für Gender & Postcolonial Studies an der UdK Berlin. Publikationen zu: Prekarisierung von Arbeit und Leben im Neoliberalismus, sozialen Bewegungen (insbes. Euromayday-Bewegung und die Besetzungsbewegungen seit 2011), kritischer Demokratietheorie, biopolitischer Gouvernementalität und politischer Immunisierung. Ihre Habilitation zu den Ordnungskämpfen der römischen Republik, dem Plebejischen, Konzepten von Gemeinschaft und Immunisierung wurde unter dem Titel Figuren des Immunen. Die Absolventinnen und Absolventen der School for New Dance Development Amsterdam sind zu Gast am HZT Berlin. Wie bereits in den vergangenen Jahren stellen sie ihre Abschlussarbeiten an zwei Abenden in zwei unterschiedlichen Programmen dem Berliner Publikum vor. Im Gegenzug werden dann die diesjährigen Absolventinnen und Absolventen des BA Tanz, Kontext, Choreographie im September in Amsterdam im Het Veem Theater ihre Arbeiten präsentieren.

Ein Ein-Wort-Name für die Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika, der nicht die Ambiguität von „Amerika“ hat. Der Ausgangspunkt für dieses Stück ist der Film Fargo von den Coen Brüdern aus dem Jahr 1996. Dieser Film porträtiert Usonia auf grässliche Weise und mit schwarzem Humor. In einem hyperbolischen und skulpturalen Körper forschend, kanalisieren wir Usonia. Wir waren noch nie in Usonia, aber Usonia ist in uns.

Drei Performerinnen schlittern durch eine Sequenz von ikonischen Bildern und Bewegungen, die sie immer wieder anpassen und neu arrangieren. Sie lassen sich darauf ein, ihr Denken anders zu gestalten, verändern die Möglichkeiten sich zu einander und zu den Bildern zu verhalten. Was konstruieren sie zusammen und was einzeln? Ist es der Körper einer Maschine oder einer Heldin?

Für dieses Projekt habe ich eine exotische zirkuläre Zeremonie entwickelt, die jeder Teilnehmer individuell ausführt. Wir haben uns in einem theatralen Raum und seiner Dekoration verfangen, in einem Protokoll und einem verschlüsselten Kommunikationssystem. Letzteres erlaubt es dem Individuum fortzufahren und so der Zeremonie sich zu entfalten. Das Publikum ist eingeladen, den Spuren des Affekts dieser Verkörperung beizuwohnen, sie zu erfahren und mit uns über (oder gegen) Zusammensein, Hingabe, Berührung, Rhythmus und Sensation zu reflektieren.

Es ist ein sehr kompliziertes System von Fallen, und alle sind tödlich. Jeder Schritt verwandelt sich in etwas anderes, jede Bewegungen wird vom Raum einbehalten. Ich weiß nicht was hier passiert, wenn alle Menschen weg sind, aber wenn hier Menschen erscheinen, beginnt alles sich zu bewegen. Jede Gestalt beginnt mit dir zu kommunizieren. Die sicheren Orte werden unwegsam und wie ein Moment einfach und leicht ist, entpuppt sich ein anderer als unüberwindbar kompliziert. Vorherige Fallen verschwinden, die neuen kommen zum Vorschein.

Body Eye ist eine choreographische Fiktion, eine feministische Utopie, in der die Erfahrung der Performance-Identität über das Malen erkundet wird. Fünf TänzerInnen verschieben die Oberfläche der Leinwand zu einer dreidimensionalen Umgebung, in der das Malen und der Live-Event verschmelzen. Der Körper ist eine Figur, eine Erweiterung des Gemäldes. Das Gemälde ist ein Monster, das sich bewegt.

Es ist unser Licht, nicht unsere Dunkelheit, die uns am meisten ängstigt. Dein Sich-Klein-Machen dient der Welt nicht. Es gibt nichts Erhellendes im Schrumpfen damit andere sich in deiner Gegenwart nicht unsicher fühlen. Wir sind alle gemacht, um zu leuchten. Wir sind geboren worden, damit die Pracht in uns sich offenbaren kann. Und wie wir unser eigenes Licht leuchten lassen, geben wir unbewusst anderen die Erlaubnis dasselbe zu tun. Unsere größte Angst ist nicht, dass wir unzulänglich sind. Unsere größte Angst ist, dass wir maßlos mächtig sind. Wenn wir von unserer Angst befreit sind, befreit unsere Präsenz automatisch andere.

Burghard Duhm, wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter der Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau, wird in diesem Vortrag der Frage nachgehen, weshalb es am historischen Bauhaus eine Bühne gab und wie sich Bühnenarbeit unter den spezifischen Bedingungen einer Hochschule für Gestaltung entwickeln konnte. Wer waren die Protagonisten, welche Bühnenideen wurden diskutiert und realisiert?

Der Vortrag findet im Rahmen der Kooperation des HZT Berlin mit der Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau für das vom Tanzfonds Erbe geförderte Projekt „Bauhaus tanzen“, statt.

Im Anschluss gibt es Studioshowings von Studierenden des BA „Tanz, Kontext, Choreographie“ und des MA „Solo/ Dance/ Authorship“. Ein Schwerpunkt aller Studiengänge am HZT Berlin ist die Entwicklung eigener choreographisch-künstlerischer Arbeiten. In diesem Format zeigen Studierende kurze choreographische Stücke und Skizzen als „works in progress“.

Das HZT Berlin ist assoziierter Partner des neuen EU-Netzwerks „Life Long Burning“, gefördert durch das Kulturprogramm der Europäischen Union. Zwölf Partnerorganisationen, darunter die Uferstudios Berlin, möchten gemeinsam ihre Expertisen und Verbindungen nutzen, um nachhaltige Strukturen für zeitgenössischen Tanz und Performance aufzubauen und KünstlerInnen zu unterstützen. Aktivitäten des Netzwerks umfassen Koproduktionen, die Präsentation und Zirkulation künstlerischer Arbeit, transnationale Kooperationen, Residenzen, Weiterbildung und Entwicklung neuer Strategien der Wissensvermittlung, Forschung und Publikation sowie Publikumsentwicklung.

Der seit 2008 existierende Prix Jardin d’Europe – ein Preis für junge ChoreographInnen, der bislang von verschiedenen europäischen Städten ausgerichtet wurde, wird im Rahmen von LLB für die nächsten fünf Jahre ganz nach Wien ziehen. Der mit 10.000 € und einer künstlerischen Residenz dotierte Tanzpreis bekommt außerdem Zuwachs in Form eines Publikumspreises.

Der Prix Jardin d’Europe wird im Rahmen von [8:tension] verliehen, der Reihe, in der das bedeutende Wiener Festival ImPulsTanz Arbeiten aufstrebender internationaler ChoreografInnen präsentiert. Wir freuen uns sehr, dass drei Alumni des HZT in diesem Jahr zu den Eingeladenen gehören: Zeina Hanna mit "Never live twice", Jana Unmüßig mit „Farbe, Farbe“ und Willy Prager mit „The Victory Day“. The American dancer, teacher and therapist Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, founder of the SCHOOL FOR BODY-MIND CENTERING®, belongs to the pioneers of somatic practice and is one of the most influential and important movement researchers of our time. In July 2011 she gave workshops in the Uferstudios. On 1 July she gave an internal workshop for students, teachers and guests of the HZT and on 2nd and 3rd July she gave a two-day workshop in cooperation with Tanzfabrik Berlin with the title "Dynamics of Perception". In addition a discussion was held between Bonnie Baingridge Cohen and the philosopher and cognitive scientist Alva Noë, moderated by Ka Rustler.

Performative work and the public stage of virtuosity

Through communication and services, production is currently not just becoming social but aesthetic as well. Labour and aesthetics entangle. If the experiences of every single person can become part of the production process, self-determination happens as performance in the public sphere. Labour becomes a presentation of virtuosity. However, when labour becomes public virtuosity, what becomes of political bargaining that once was central to the public and virtuosity – especially in Hannah Arendt’s work?

Isabell Lorey is a political scientist. Currently she teaches as visiting professor for political theory at the Gender Studies Centre at the University of Basel. Before she was a visiting professor at the Humboldt University Berlin (2010 and 2011) and the University of Vienna (2009 and 2010). In 2001-2007 she was assistant professor for Gender & Post-colonial Studies at the University of the Arts Berlin. Publications: The precarisation of labour and life in neoliberalism, social movements (esp. the EuroMayDay movement and the occupation and democracy-movements since 2011), critical theory of democracy and representation, biopolitical governmentality, and political immunization. For this project we’ve been developing an exotic circular ceremony that each participant executes individually. We’ve tangled ourselves in a theatrical space and its decoration, a protocol, and an encrypted communication system. This last one allows the individual to proceed, and therefore the ceremony to evolve.

The audience is invited to witness the traces of affection of this embodiment, to experience it and reflect with us about (or against) togetherness, devotion, touch, rhythm and sensation.

It’s a very complicated system of traps and all of them are deadly. Every footstep transforms into something else, every movement is retained by the space. I do not know what happens here when humans are absent, but as soon as people appear, everything starts to move. Every shape starts to communicate with you. The safe places become impassable and the way one moment is simple and easy, the other turns out to be insuperably complicated. Previous traps disappear, new ones emerge.

Body Eye is a choreographic fiction, a feminist utopia, where the experience of performance identity is explored through the composition of painting. Five dancers relocate the surface of the canvas to a three dimensional environment in which painting and live events coalesce. The body is a figure, an extension of the painting. The painting is a monster that moves.

It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine. We were born to make the glory that is within us manifest. As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Studio 11, 4 - 5:30pm
In the light-pervaded, large Studio 11 of the HZT Berlin, the "Movement Workshop for All" invites everyone with interest and curiosity for movement and choreography. The workshop will be run by Prof. Thomas Plischke from the BA "Dance, Context, Choreography" Course. Dance experience is not necessary. Please bring comfortable clothes.

Afterwards, there are the studio showings by students from the BA "Dance, Context, Choreography" and the MA "Solo/ Dance/ Authorship" courses. A focus of all HZT Berlin courses is the development of the students' own choreographic and artistic work. With this in mind, the students share short choreographic pieces and sketches as work-in-progress presentations.

The HZT Berlin is an associated partner of the new EU network "Life Long Burning", funded by the cultural programme of the European Union. Twelve partner organisations, of which the Uferstudios is one, work to use their expertise and connections in order to build sustainable structures for contemporary dance and performance and to support artists. Activities of the network include co-productions, the presentation and circulation of artistic work, transnational co-operations, residencies, education and development of new strategies of knowledge transfer, research and publication as well as audience development.

In addition the Prix Jardin d'Europe – a prize for young choreographers which has existed since 2008 and until now been hosted by different European cities, moves exclusively to Vienna for the next five years. The dance prize of €10,000 and an artistic residency is augmented by an audience prize.

The prize will be given as part of [8:tension], the series in which the prominent Viennese international dance festival ImPulzTanz presents emerging international choreographers. We are very pleased to announce that three alumni of the HZT have been invited this year. Zeina Hanna with "Never live twice", Jana Unmüßig with "Farbe, Farbe" and Willy Prager with "The Victory Day". Read more in Alumni Affairs below.
